Empowering futures: Discover YUMA's transformative programs
At Young Urban Men of America (YUMA), we're dedicated to nurturing potential and building leaders. Explore our holistic programs designed to uplift young men and boys from ages 4 to 40, fostering growth, community, and lasting impact. We believe in providing a vital infrastructure to mobilize, mentor, and mature young men of color and urban males, guiding them from boys to brothers, and from brothers to builders.
Our foundational programs: A journey of growth
YUMA's comprehensive 4-tier system is designed to support young men and boys at every stage of their development, from childhood to mature leadership, creating a flourishing environment through education, exposure, enrichment, employment, and etiquette.
Young kings (ages 4–12)
Our foundational program focuses on literacy, building self-esteem, and providing positive male role models to guide young boys. We foster emotional intelligence and belonging, crucial for overcoming challenges in underserved communities.
Emerging men development (ages 13–18)
Supporting academic success, character training, and early career exploration, this program helps teens transition into responsible young adults, preparing them for life beyond school, including trades and higher education.
Empower builders (ages 19-29)
Equipping individuals with essential skills and resources to build sustainable careers, strengthen neighborhoods, and create generational wealth. This tier focuses on practical application and community impact.
From YN to young man plan: A lifelong commitment
YUMA is dedicated to reshaping the lives of millions of misguided children and justice-impacted youth, who often feel there is no hope for their future. Our programs are open to the public and designed to help people of all ages, including young women and girls, fostering a supportive community for everyone.
Legacy leaders (ages 30-40)
This leadership development initiative equips individuals to lead with purpose, create economic opportunity, and build lasting impact for future generations. Legacy Leaders are pivotal in strengthening the community infrastructure and mentoring the younger tiers, helping YUMA serve the communities it is designed for.
Special initiatives: Making a difference
Beyond our core tiers, YUMA offers targeted programs. 'The prince and princess project' builds self-esteem, self-empowerment, and emotional intelligence, tackling bullying and celebrating milestones to combat depression and suicide in underserved communities. 'Stand up stand out' provides a chance to 'opt out' for youth misassociated with gangs, offering a fresh start from past affiliations. Our 'Work for us campaign' aims to generate thousands of jobs and reduce poverty by 20% by 2030 by focusing on local community work within a 5-mile radius of Chicago, Illinois.
